Unity Centre
Unity Centre
The Unity Centre is Northstowe’s new permanent community centre, delivered by South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC). Construction has just finished, and SCDC has formally handed over the keys to Northstowe Town Council, who will operate the building going forward, with public opening from 30 March 2026.
The centre houses a large multi-purpose main hall, a welcoming foyer with a café area, office space for staff and the town council, meeting rooms, a shared co-working space, and a flexible activity area for arts, crafts, or workshops.
It was designed with sustainability as a priority: built using a cross-laminated timber (CLT) frame to Passivhaus standards, meaning it’s highly insulated, airtight, and mechanically ventilated with heat recovery, keeping energy use very low. It also features solar panels, ground source heat pumps, and green roofs, plus biodiversity-friendly landscaping with trees, hedges, bird and bat boxes, and bee houses.
The Unity Centre will gradually take over services currently run from “The Cabin,” the temporary community centre, joining other local facilities.
