]]> The Unity Centre is Northstowe’s new permanent community centre, delivered by South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC). Construction has just finished, and SCDC has formally handed over the keys to Northstowe Town Council, who will operate the building going forward, with public opening from 30 March 2026.

The centre houses a large multi-purpose main hall, a welcoming foyer with a café area, office space for staff and the town council, meeting rooms, a shared co-working space, and a flexible activity area for arts, crafts, or workshops.

It was designed with sustainability as a priority: built using a cross-laminated timber (CLT) frame to Passivhaus standards, meaning it’s highly insulated, airtight, and mechanically ventilated with heat recovery, keeping energy use very low. It also features solar panels, ground source heat pumps, and green roofs, plus biodiversity-friendly landscaping with trees, hedges, bird and bat boxes, and bee houses.

The Unity Centre will gradually take over services currently run from “The Cabin,” the temporary community centre, joining other local facilities.

]]> The Ellesmere Centre is a sports, leisure and community Centre serving the six surrounding villages.We aim to provide an affordable venue offering a warm and welcoming space for parties, weddings and wakes. We also offer facilities for tennis, football, squash, badminton, carpet bowls, table tennis and more.There is a small gym which is available for hire upstairs. We have classes which cater for all ages with Pilates, Yoga, Fitsteps, Judo, Kickboxing, Little Kickers, Irish Dancing, Ballet and toddlers music to name a few. We also hold lunches for the over 80’s each month. There is a small shop run by volunteers and a beauty salon in the building. Hopefully we provide something for everyone.

The Centre is home to a sports hall, a squash court, two tennis courts and has an astroturf 5-a-side facility.

]]> Little Paxton Hub has all the facilities to welcome any group, large or small, providing excellent access for all including on-site parking. There is complimentary wi-fi throughout the building and a fully equipped kitchen. The adjoining field is also available for sports events.

Our rooms range in size and the main hall can accommodate up to 100 people and is suitable for larger events and classes. Children especially love the big space, and the adjacent kitchen which is included in the hire cost makes catering easy. Our two meeting rooms can accommodate up to 30 people when joined, with the sliding partition open, making them ideal for medium size meetings or smaller classes. Individually they can accommodate up to 10 people comfortably and are great for small groups.

Our cafeteria can seat up to 16 people around four tables. Baby chairs are also available. The kitchen which is adjacent to the café, is well equipped for self-catering having a fridge, dishwasher, cooker, kettles, a hot water urn, cutlery and crockery. Hire charges are inclusive of the use of chairs and tables, and audio visual and sound equipment.

]]> Melbourn Hub is a modern purpose-built facility serving Melbourn and the wider community of South Cambridgeshire. It is fully serviced with paid staff present during opening hours. It provides:
– A community cafe and restaurant offering a home cooked menu for all day dining between 9.00am and 4.00pm
– A Community Library, open between 2.00 and 4.00pm weekdays and 10.00am to 2,00pm on Saturdays
– Four state of the art meeting rooms with secure digital communications, integrated screens and projectors all inclusive with room hire rates
– Meeting room clients can use the onsite catering facilities for in-room dining or alternatively eat in the Atrium restaurant. The restaurant is licensed to serve alcohol.
– Off site and takeaway catering is also welcomed. Free public car parking only 25m from the building.

The building has two disability parking spaces on site. Plentiful free parking is immediately opposite the Hub facility.

Melbourn Hub offers daily medical services operated in conjunction with local GP surgeries, together with frequent access to counselling (family, mental health, dementia, Citizens Advice etc).
